■メリッサMellisaが、実際の会話がしやすいワークをたくさん作ってくれました(Language exchange)。とてもわかりやすくて"Very Good" で"Great!!"なワークでした。11:00～13:00頃のカフェ開店時間内には、のべ25人ほどの生徒が訪れ、通訳のエィミーさん、英語科の坂先生を中心に国際交流委員会の先生等が4名(戸川:国語科、川崎:保健体育科、大林:家庭科、北野:事務職員)、及び教頭の近西が参加しました。終了後、参加生徒はお菓子や缶ジュースをもらい、おしゃべりを楽しみました。
■Melissa made lots of work that made it easy for real conversation (Language exchange). It was very easy to understand her power point presentation.
About 25 students visited the English Café. The event started at around 11: 00-13: 00. Four members of the International Exchange Committee teachers participated including Amy, an interpreter, teachers from other department: Ms. Saka from English Department,Ms.Togawa from Japanese department, Mr. Kawasaki from P.E department, Ms. Kitano from principal office, and Mr. Chikanishi, the vice principal of this school gave his support on the said event.
After the activity, the students who participated got their free candies and canned juice.The students enjoyed speaking in English.
■Today`s Menu⇒【ランゲージ・エクスチェンジ】
ランゲージ・エクスチェンジとは、「お互いが言語を教え合うというもので、例えば日本人が日本語を学びたい外国人に日本語の単語や表現を教え、英語を学びたい日本人は外国人から英語を学ぶ」というものです。トークテーマに沿って会話をし、エィミーさんが英語で通訳する等のサポートをしてくれました。ランゲージ・エクスチェンジは、英語の初心者でも自信がない人でも、間違いを恐れず気軽に参加できるのが特徴だったと思いました。トークテーマは生徒にとって話しやすいものであり、自身の経験や意見をたくさん交換し合いとても楽しく会話をすることが出来ました。教室設営は、通常授業のものとは異なり、向かい合わせの二列に椅子を並べました。そして向かいに座った生徒と会話をします。様々な生徒と会話を交わすことが出来て、楽しい時間を過ごすことが出来ました。英語での会話以外にも、メリッサは自身の故郷であるフィリピンについても示してくれました。メリッサは、フィリピンの主要公共交通機関であるジープやフィリピンの伝統料理、美しい風景、民族衣装、ナショナルフルーツであるマンゴー等の写真を用意してくれました。それらは生徒にとって、ただ英語を学ぶだけではなく他の国の文化も学ぶ機会となり、とても良い時間となりました。
ランゲージ・エクスチェンジは英語を学ぶことを第一に考えることもできますが、文化交流、国際交流の場ともいえると思います。『言語の交流をして英語と異文化を知る』というような感じでした。「友達作りの場としても活用」できると思いました(写真参照)。〔文責/教頭：近西〕

What is Language Exchange?
Language exchange means teach each other language.If you're a Japanese you will use Japanese words and teach your language to foreigners who want to learn Japanese, and vice versa, Japanese people who want to learn English from foreigners.
This kind of activity made the students feel comfortable in speaking in English without any pressure of making mistake because the teachers guided them well.
The topics were also interesting to talk to. The students shared a lot about their own experiences and their own opinions which made the conversation really fun.
The set up was also different from a normal classroom. The chairs was line up in two rows and each students had their own partner to talk to. After each questions the students change their partners. It was fun because you can meet and share with different people.
Aside talking with the students, Melissa also showcased her country which is the Philippines. It was a great day because the students didn't just learn about English but also other country's culture.She posted pictures like jeep- her country's main transportation,famous Pilipino food, beauty places in her country, their national costume and their national fruit which is mango.
The language exchange was not only about language but also sharing your own country's culture with other people.I can use it as a place to make friends" (see picture).Censure / Kyoto: CHIKANISHI
