There are many differences between the lessons of junior high school and high school. This section of the website will explain some of them.

Many of the subjects at high school are divided into several subjects. For example: there are two different kinds of mathematics: Math A and Math I.

Four kinds of English: Advanced English, Communication α, Communication β, and English Expressions. Advanced English is taught by a teacher from the UK and there is also an American teacher who works with the second year students so you will have a chance to speak English at Kasugaoka and learn English from a native speaker.

Three kinds of science: biology, chemistry, and physics.

Four kinds of social studies: Japanese history, world history, geography, and modern society.

All the subjects are more difficult than at junior high school so you must study hard in all subjects. The pace of the lessons is very fast so if you feel that you didn't understand something, you need to do some self-study. If you ask the teachers, they will help you but first you should think about the things you don't understand because Kasugaoka's goal is to create students who can think for themselves.

There are some very interesting classes however. For example, we have a lot of chances to write about our thoughts and feelings in Advanced English and in Japanese class. The Japanese department produce a book called Ayumi every year which has the best essays from Kasugaoka's students. This book has been produced for over 30 years. In addition, we can make our own clothes and do a fashion show in our homemaking class.

Most teachers use PowerPoint in their classes or digital textbooks. At first, this was difficult to understand but now I appreciate it as the classes are smooth because of this.
