There are UNESCO School Activities in Kasugaoka High School. For example, we collected the caps of PET bottles (this is called Cap-paign) in order to get vaccines which can be donated to needy countries. The class that collects the most caps is recognised by the school. Also, we clean the streets around the school, build relationships with special support education schools, participate in international exchange and so on. From now on, we are going to try to do several activities using network which link Osaka's UNESCO schools to nationwide UNESCO schools.

There are various problems such as the environment, poverty, human rights, peace, and economic development. ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) is the study and activities which aim to create our sense of value and make a sustainable society. There are certifications of volunteer activities as proof of which individual people worked on ESD.

The 63rd contest about international understanding and international community was held in September 2016. At the Osaka event, a second grader from Kasugaoka High School won the highest award and went on to participate in the national competition where they received a special commendation.

Kasugaoka also has an exchange programme with Southwest High School in Minneapolis. Minneapolis is a city located in the American State of Minnesota. It's the biggest city in the state. By the estimation census in 2015, the population is 382,578 people. The city is located in the north side of the spot where the Minnesotan river joins the Mississippi. It's also one of the so-called Twin Cities together with the Minneapolis state capital St. Paul which neighbours to the east. The greater metropolitan area has a population of about 3,300,000 people or 3,600,000 people if Blue Minton is included. The typical climate in the area, which is called the Upper Mid-West is warm in the summer and cold in the winter but mainly dry. There is a lot of snow in the winter however.

From 2017, there will also be an opportunity for students to visit Perth in Eastern Australia for a two-week English intensive summer programme. Students will be able to visit an Australian school with a buddy and take part in lessons in addition to attending language classes and enjoying some time for recreation.

In addition, some students partake in local speech contests such as the ones in Ibaraki and Suita. Last year a Kasugaoka student won the Ibaraki speech contest and this year a student got a special mention. There are some good prizes to be won so it is worth thinking about entering.

Further, many students do other things for charity. For example, the light music club held a charity concert, and many students worked to collect money for the victims of the Tohoku Earthquake and the Kumamoto Earthquakes. Some students from Kasugaoka also went to Tohoku to volunteer. They learned a lot of things there and were surprised by the slow pace of reconstruction.
